I started my career as a state prosecutor, prosecuting a wide spectrum of “street crimes”, including murder, rape, robbery,
drug-dealings, fraud, corruption, theft and forgery in both Cape Town and Pretoria.
I spent several years working as in-house counsel within a major listed entity before returning to private practice. I have advised across all industries and sectors, including state-owned enterprises and government departments, in matters of governance, regulation, employment, litigation and corporate crime prevention and investigation.
I have generally been instructed by Group Counsel, CEO’s or boards as well as heads of departments and senior officials within government. I have been advisor on highly sensitive issues involving fraud and corruption, and have guided clients through risk mitigation, civil recovery as well as on disciplinary proceedings against implicated employees and individuals.
I have been actively involved in assisting law enforcement agencies with criminal aspects stemming from investigations undertaken, both nationally and internationally and have headed up various teams investigating complex cross-border
I have years of extensive experience in the field, speak regularly on both radio and TV and provide opinions in the media on all matters related to economic crimes, compliance and regulation as well as cyber-crimes.
Dave is a member of the local and USA chapters of the ACFE. He is also a member of the ICFP as well as the Law Societies of the Northern Provinces and Western Cape.
I am currently serving as honorary Patron of the CGF Research Institute of South Africa and I am widely recognised as a leader in the field by independent agencies such as Chambers & Co.
